Timeline

Expressing a song’s emotions and atmosphere through visual animation and packaging design

Process

This project went through multiple design iterations, making adjustments to colour, typography, placement, and layout. Each change was made intentionally to better reflect the emotion and atmosphere of the song.

Through refining composition and visual balance, the final outcome became more cohesive and aligned with the mood I wanted to convey.

In After Effects, I animated a line from Dreaming of Saturn using Trim Paths to create a fluid motion that followed the rhythm of the track. For the motion poster, I experimented with gradients and zoom effects to build a more immersive visual experience. The aim was to move beyond simply viewing or hearing the song, and instead translate its emotion into motion so the audience could feel its atmosphere through the design.

Outcome

The final outcome consists of a visually cohesive body of work that successfully captures the emotions and atmosphere of the song Saturn through a motion poster, vinyl and CD disc, and their corresponding packaging.

Using a combination of motion, typography, and packaging design, the project creates an immersive and emotionally driven visual experience. Drawing on the song’s themes of introspection and escapism, purple was chosen as the primary colour due to its associations with mystery, rarity, and the unknown.
