solo card game Designed for genuine human connection in a digitally saturated world.
Many young adults feel lonely and isolated despite constant digital connection, as online spaces often encourage performative and surface level interactions over genuine relationships.
To address this issue, I designed a solo game that reframes connection as something that begins with the self, encouraging reflection and self-connection within the comfort of their own homes.

although young adults want to make more friendships and deeper connections, they aren’t willing to do it if it costs them their comfort
Process
The process began with thumbnail sketches exploring the game design and its packaging. This included the internal box layout as well as supporting touchpoints such as the website, social media, and merchandise.
For the high-fidelity physical mock-up, I measured the interior of the box and carefully planned the structure for holding the cards, journal, and pen. Using cardboard, I constructed and hot-glued each internal section in place, resulting in a clean, functional, and considered packaging design.

The core idea was to bring this game to life through a physical mockup, creating a memorable experience that people can feel and touch rather than something digital that would be easily forgotten in a world of online overconsumption.
A website and social media presence were created to extend the experience beyond the game itself. Players are notified of updates and social posts, and can visit the Not Lonely website to share their own experiences while playing the game, as well as read other people’s stories, creating an intimate hub for connection and relatability.
I developed a simple, playful visual style to create a warm and approachable feel, aligning with the solo-player experience of the game. A signature “Not Lonely” Yellow was adapted to evoke a positive and bright tone to the brands identity.
